Big View Trail accessible for years to come through easement

Nature-lovers rejoice with one of Massachusetts latest reports of an easement deal that will allow a popular hiking trail to be open to the public for years to come. Easements come into play when private lands are put to public use. The benefit to the private land holders is financial compensation and the benefit is that the public has a preserved area to visit for years to come and enjoy. This easement is roughly 100 acres off Unquomonk Road in Williamsburg.

The easement plans to link up with a larger 1,000 acres of connected land in the Hilltown region. Developing the land will allow for conservation of the area and a place for the public to come and enjoy it. Easements are essentially a contract, in this case, between the land owner and local trusts in the area who administrate the process. Easements can come into play for a variety of land, property or other means, in which benefits come to both land owner and those that use the land or property in question.

Because there are multiple-parties at play, disputes can arise in which the owner and administrator of a property are in disagreement. There may be some dispute as to an issue that may have arisen pertaining to negligence. Who maintains a property or land in question can sometimes not be cut and dried per an original agreement. Resolving these disputes is an option as is termination of the original contract, if necessary.

Figuring out what move is right when interested in involving yourself in an easement or resolving an easement dispute isn't always clear. It's often more complicated than a standard business contract. There are usually multiple players involved and all can have differing opinions.
